A new emoji peace symbol for World Peace is needed

Many years ago the United Nations declared that World Peace is its highest calling. World Peace defines their mission, drives their discourse, and draws together all their work, from peacekeeping and preventive diplomacy to promoting human rights and development. As part of their efforts the International Day of Peace has been observed every year on September 21st since 1981. It is a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples through education and public awareness on issues related to peace.

At this turbulent period in history the United Nations can use all the help it can get to help promote this years theme for International Peace Day which is "Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All."

To help them in their efforts, I think it is time for a new and modern Peace Symbol to go viral. A new emoji could be produced (a version of those smiley-face pictures that people love to insert into text messages) as a new symbol for World Peace that represents the theme for this years International Peace Day. As one possibility, a simple circle to represent the earth with three straight lines running from east to west to represent "respect, safety and dignity for all", is all that would be needed.

There are now billions of emojis used everyday in electronic communications throughout the world, and they are doing what the tone of voice does on the telephone and gestures do in face-to-face communication. Essentially, they convey the writer's feelings or intended tone. Inserting a new Peace Sign emoji at the end of millions of texts and email communications every day would certainly help a great deal to bring the world together for Peace and promote this years International Peace Day.
