Reform Federal Marijuana Policy

Petition Text

The Controlled Substances Act explicitly reserves the rights for the various states to set their own criminal laws as they relate to drugs. To date, a vast majority of states have acted on that right by exempting either certain medical patients, adults 21 and older, or both, from their marijuana laws. A vast majority of these states also allow registered and highly regulated businesses to cultivate, distribute, and sell marijuana to patients or adults. Despite all of this, and in spite of the fact that a solid majority of Americans now think marijuana should be legal, Congress has done nothing to reform federal marijuana policy. It is now well past time to act.

Rep. Dana Rohrabacher and a bipartisan group of 16 of your fellow representatives have filed legislation to change this. H.R. 975 would end the federal prohibition of marijuana and allow states to reform their laws in the ways that work best for their communities. I write to ask that you sign on to this bill, H.R. 975.

Why is this important?

A solid majority of Americans now think marijuana should be legal, Congress has done nothing to reform federal marijuana policy. It is now well past time to act.
